Even in the digital age, photo albums do not lose their appeal. While selfies and holiday memories are happily presented on the display while on the road or in the office, people like to hold something real in their hands at home. The photo album is not only on the shelves and in the cupboards of the older generation, but also of many young people, singles, families and married couples. But what makes the photo book so indestructible? Pictures are an emotionally powerful way to preserve memories and experiences for eternity. Typically, holidays, celebrations, special moments and the everyday are happily pasted or preserved in a photo album. The books have been popular with us since the end of the 19th century.
In the early days of the photo album, family albums were usually created by professional photographers. Divided into different compartments and made of die-cut cardboard, they were often gold-edged and held by richly decorated leather covers. The books were elaborately designed and had, for example, metal fittings, leather or velvet covers and the pages were gold printed. Built-in music boxes and detailed clasps were also not uncommon. The pictures were printed on paper and glued to cardboard cards of the same size. On the backs of the cardboard cards, the photographer could immortalise himself or herself with a special business card, indicating that he or she was responsible for this memory and the photo album.
Not much has changed in the basic form of an album. Only plastic has been added as a material for the cover. Along with leather, it is one of the most common cover materials. Inside, there are individual pages made of light cardboard. Here, the pictures are attached by means of the photo corners or one simply sticks them on as desired. In between two pages there is a page of so-called spider paper - a transparent paper - to protect the pictures. With old pictures, this intermediate sheet of glassine prevented the surfaces of the glued-in pictures from sticking together. Whereas in the past the photos had a gelatine layer on the surface, nowadays there is a plastic film which can no longer swell and thus stick together.
In addition to the traditional photo album, our shop offers you many other design forms and product variants to sort in your pictures. These include, for example, insert albums, photo boxes, spiral books, self-adhesive photo books in various themes, designs and motifs - to suit every imaginable occasion.
Our range of accessories is similarly extensive: in our shop you can purchase additional glassine sheets, matching pens, stickers, or other decorative items to decorate your albums, or order additional pages if you use a spiral album. If you don't want to use glue, you can use photo corners to "frame" your pictures, or even buy negative sleeves for slides. There are hardly any limits to creativity and variety here.
