With this adapter, A-mount lenses with SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor) and SAM (Smooth Autofocus Motor) can be used with the latest E-mount cameras to take advantage of large-area focal plane AF phase detection including subject detection such as real-time eye AF (people and animals), real-time tracking, and more. When the adapter is used with the latest E-mount bodies, the cameras' AF/AE tracking performance can also be used with A-mount SSM and SAM lenses, even in continuous shooting at up to 11 fps. For information on compatible bodies and lenses, see the compatibility section.

Precise AF and AF/AE tracking for SSM, SAM and motorless lenses

The LA-EA5 supports all A-mount lenses4, including models without internal motors such as Sonnar T* 135 mm F1.8 ZA and Planar T* 85 mm F1.4 ZA. AF phase detection on the focal plane, AF with real-time eye detection (people and animals), real-time tracking and AF/AE series tracking are fully supported at up to 11 fps. Compact cylindrical design and convenient operation

The slim, high-performance cylindrical lens adapter houses newly developed compact AF and iris drive units. The diameter matches A-mount, so nothing protrudes when used with E-mount bodies - for comfortable holding and operation even when using a vertical grip.
