Canon EOS R + SmallRig 2803 Cage

The Canon EOS R is the first step in Canon's mirrorless evolution, combining a newly developed lens mount with an updated full-frame image sensor to create a unique and sophisticated multimedia camera system. Built around the new RF lens mount, the EOS R is designed to bring out the best in a new range of lenses and optical technologies.

The Canon EOS R features a high-resolution 30.3-MP full-frame CMOS sensor combined with a DIGIC 8 image processor. The combination of these technologies offers a wide sensitivity range up to a native ISO 40000, fast continuous shooting at up to 8 fps, and UHD 4K30 video recording. In addition to imaging, the sensor also enables an advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF system that uses 5655 selectable points for fast and precise focusing. This focusing system is also sensitive down to EV -6 to work in impressively dark conditions. The AF system is also perfectly matched to UHD 4K video recording capabilities, which are further enhanced by Movie Digital IS to minimize camera shake, built-in Canon Log-Gamma for wider dynamic range, and 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 output via HDMI for even better color control.

Performance features aside, this camera has been designed from the ground up with a high-resolution 3.69 million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder for clear and bright eye-level viewing. The rear 3.15" 2.1 million-dot LCD touchscreen swivels to allow working from high and low viewing angles. The multi-function bar, suitable for intuitive adjustment of shooting settings, also accommodates tactile desires. The magnesium alloy body is dust and moisture resistant, making it a camera that can withstand the harshest conditions.

Canon RF Lens

Mount

With the new lens mount, the EOS R is the first camera to support Canons lenses with RF mount. This mount features a large diameter of 54mm and a short flange distance of 20mm, enabling the development of lenses that are both faster and smaller than their SLR counterparts. The mount also features a 12-pin electronic contact system for more sophisticated autofocus and image stabilization functions. This mount design also offers full compatibility with existing EF and EF-S lenses via an optional EF-EOS R mount adapter.

30.3MP full frame CMOS sensor and DIGIC 8 image processor

The large 30.3MP full-frame CMOS sensor offers an ideal balance of high resolution, low-light performance and high-speed capabilities. Combined with the DIGIC 8 image processor, the EOS R offers a native sensitivity range of ISO 100-40000, which can be expanded to ISO 50-102400 for work in varying lighting conditions. Fast continuous shooting at up to 8 frames per second is also supported for photographing moving subjects.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF

Dual Pixel CMOS AF provides smooth and fast focusing performance, similar to a camcorder's focus

lock.

This system integrates two separate photodiodes in each pixel to provide a wide and dense network of 5655 phase-detecting detection elements across much of the image sensor, reducing "focus hunting" for faster and more direct control of focus placement. When working with still images, this focusing system provides fast and precise focus, making it ideal for shooting and tracking moving subjects so that critical focus is achieved in every shot. When shooting video, the Movie Servo AF mode provides smooth and natural focusing when switching between different subjects or varying distances within the scene, as well as the ability to set tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and face tracking priority. Using the Touch AF system, focusing is possible by simply touching elements within the subject on the touchscreen to change focus in an intuitive way. Subject tracking in movies is also improved, as the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system is able to detect subjects and maintain focus even in changing or cluttered scenes. Additionally, the focus system is sensitive down to EV -6 for precise AF in really low-light conditions.

UHD 4K video recording and Canon Log Gamma

The Canon EOS R is designed for multimedia photographers and supports UHD 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) recording at up to 30 frames per second at 480 Mb/s, as well as Full HD 1080p recording at 60 frames per second and HD 720p at 120 frames per second for slow-motion playback. When recorded in-camera, 4K video has 4:2:2 sampling and 8-bit color depth; when using an external recorder, clean 4:2:2 10-bit output in ITU-R CT.2020 is possible.

With the integrated Canon Log, users can also capture flat images with an improved dynamic range of 800% or 12 stops. This feature facilitates camera balancing in post-production and offers the greatest latitude and potential for color grading. A View Assist function is available for monitoring, emulating a graded look for closer viewing on the camera's LCD.

Audio can be recorded via the built-in stereo microphone. Optionally, an external microphone can also be used via the 3.5 mm microphone jack.

Dual Pixel RAW

First introduced with the EOS 5D Mark IV, Dual Pixel RAW allows photographers to record all the information that the sensor's unique pixel architecture can provide, and offers the ability to make fine adjustments after the shot. These adjustments include Focus Fine Tuning, which allows you to easily adjust the focus point to bring out additional detail, shift the bokeh for better composition, and reduce the effects of ghosting in your photos. This requires Digital Photo Professional software from Canon.

The rear-facing 3.15" 2.1m pixel LCD swivels to facilitate work from high, low and frontal viewing angles. It's also a touchscreen for intuitive control of recording, playback and menu navigation.

The customizable multi-function bar is located near the viewfinder on the back of the camera and can be set to control four functions using right, left, slide, and press motions. It can be used to adjust ISO or white balance, check focus/display focus information or AF modes, switch to movie recording mode, use AE with flexible priority, or adjust to other functions.

A dot-matrix LCD is located on the top panel for quick access to important camera settings.
An SD memory card slot is present and supports the UHS-II protocol for faster read and write speeds to better support 4K video recording and fast continuous shooting.

The magnesium alloy body is lightweight, durable, and features dustproof and waterproof seals for use in a variety of weather conditions

Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity enables wireless sharing, control and image transfer with a compatible smart device via the Canon Camera Connect app, which also supports geotagging your files with location data from your mobile device.

The included LP-E6N lithium-ion battery allows for approximately 430 shots per charge. In-camera charging is supported via the PD-E1 USB power adapter. This camera is also compatible with the LP-E6 battery, but it cannot be charged in-camera.

Fast, precise focusing

The EOS R offers a full-frame sensor with 30.3 megapixels and Dual Pixel CMOS AF. Thanks to advanced phase detection, it is possible to choose between 5,655 AF positions. It uses the vast majority of the sensor's pixels (80% of the horizontal pixels and 100% of the vertical pixels) to provide super-fast autofocus for still images and smooth focus tracking when shooting video.

SmallRig 2803 Cage for Canon EOS R

The SmallRig Cage for Canon EOS R is a form-fitting full cage which provides protection and accessory mounts for your camera. The cage attaches to the bottom of the camera with a 1/4"-20 screw and has two pins for twisting. It has multiple 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 threaded holes, ARRI accessory threads, and a cold shoe that allows for accessory mounting. Additionally, the cage has a built-in Arca Swiss QR plate and a flat screwdriver on the bottom.
