For the professional image creator who needs resolution, speed and video capabilities, there's the Canon EOS R5. This mirrorless full-frame camera sets new standards in terms of versatility. It features a newly developed 45 megapixel CMOS sensor that offers 8K raw video recording, 12 fps continuous shooting with mechanical shutter and is the first EOS camera to offer 5-axis sensor shift image stabilization.
In addition to resolution, the sensor, combined with the refined DIGIC X image processor, offers a new generation of Dual Pixel CMOS AF for fast, smooth and intelligent focusing with 1053 selectable points covering the entire field of view. This focusing system has also been updated to utilize Deep Learning technology for improved subject tracking as well as accurate eye, face and head detection for people and animals.
Complementing the imaging features, the Canon EOS R5 has a new design that will be familiar to users of the EOS 5 series. A particularly high-resolution 0.5-inch electronic viewfinder with 5.76 million pixels offers a realistic 120 frames per second refresh rate, while the 3.2-inch LCD monitor with touchscreen on the back is equipped with a variable viewing angle to meet the needs of vloggers and make it easier to work from high and low angles. A status LCD on the top provides an intuitive workflow and the camera has two memory card slots - one for CFexpress Type B and one for SD UHS-II - as well as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wireless connectivity
.45 MP full-frame sensor and DIGIC X processor
Based on a newly developed 45 MP full-frame CMOS sensor, the EOS Canon R5 offers both high-resolution photos and videos. The finely tuned DIGIC X image processor complements this with high speed. The sensitivity of ISO 100-51200, which can be extended to ISO 102400, is suitable for working in a wide range of lighting conditions, while fast continuous shooting at up to 12 fps with a mechanical shutter or a quiet 20 fps with an electronic shutter is ideal for working with moving subjects
.8K30 raw and 4K120 video recording
The 45-megapixel full-frame sensor not only enables photos, but also high-resolution DCI 8K raw video recording at 30 frames per second and 4K recording at up to 120 frames per second in 4:2:2 10-bit with Canon Log. HDR PQ recording is also possible, with in-camera HDR production and external recording via the HDMI port supporting clean 4K output at up to 60 fps. Both All-I and IPB compression options are available, as well as the ability to use Dual Pixel CMOS AF when shooting up to 8K raw
.Dual Pixel CMOS AF II
The updated Dual Pixel CMOS AF II has 1053 selectable focus points covering approximately 100% of the field of view, ensuring wide and even coverage. This focusing system provides smooth and fast focusing performance, similar to how a camcorder captures focus. This system integrates two separate photodiodes in each pixel to provide a wide and dense network of phase detection sensing elements across much of the image sensor, reducing "focus hunting" and providing faster and more direct control of focus positioning. When working with still images, this focusing system provides fast and precise focusing, making it ideal for shooting and tracking moving subjects, ensuring critical sharpness is achieved in every shot. When shooting video, the Movie Servo AF mode provides smooth and natural focusing when changing subjects or different distances within the scene, as well as the ability to set tracking sensitivity, AF speed and face tracking priority. Using the Touch AF system, focusing is possible by simply touching elements within the subject on the touch screen to change focus in an intuitive way. Subject tracking in movies is also improved as the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system is able to recognize subjects and maintain focus even in changing or cluttered scenery.
Subject tracking has also been improved through the use of Deep Learning technology, which helps to progressively refine the focusing system's ability to recognize people and animal subjects quickly and accurately. This technology also supports the refined eye, face and head detection functions for people and animals, which are well suited to portrait applications
.Sensor Shift Image Stabilizer
As the first EOS camera, the Canon EOS R5 has a 5-axis sensor shift image stabilizer that compensates for camera shake by up to 8 stops, enabling effective compensation for camera shake when shooting handheld at slow shutter speeds. This stabilization system also works in conjunction with lens-based optical image stabilization for both native RF lenses and adapted EF lenses
.Body design and wireless connectivity
- The high-resolution 0.5-inch electronic viewfinder with 5.67 million pixels offers a bright and detailed view at eye level.
- The fast refresh rate of 120 frames per second enables natural motion reproduction for a realistic viewfinder experience.
- The rear 3.2" LCD touchscreen with 2.1 million pixels has a vari-angle design that enables front-facing shots, e.g . for vlogging shots.
- The upper status LCD can be used to quickly check the camera and shooting settings
- .
- CFexpress Type B and SD UHS-II memory card slots are provided for flexible storage requirements; the CFexpress slot is ideal for 8K video and fast, high-resolution continuous shooting, while the SD card slot retains a familiar form factor for broad compatibility .
- Both a 3.5mm headphone jack and a 3.5mm external microphone jack are included for enhanced audio monitoring and recording capabilities, while
- the refined body design features four different dials for intuitive operation .
- On the back of the camera is a joystick controller for quick and intuitive focus point selection and menu navigation.
The robust, weatherproof housing is designed for tough working conditions and bad weather. - Both the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz WiFi bands are available for fast file transfer to a mobile device, and Bluetooth is also available to enable constant device connection via the Canon Camera Connect app.
