26.2-MP full-frame CMOS sensor and DIGIC 8 image processor.
The large 26.2-MP full-frame CMOS sensor offers an ideal balance of high resolution, low-light performance, and high speed. Combined with the DIGIC 8 image processor, the EOS RP has a wide native sensitivity range of ISO 100-40000 for working in a wide range of lighting conditions. In addition, continuous shooting at up to 5fps is possible for working with moving subjects.
Dual Pixel CMOS AF
Dual Pixel CMOS AF provides smooth and fast focusing performance, similar to a camcorder. This system integrates two separate photodiodes in each pixel to provide a wide and dense network of phase-detecting detection elements over much of the image sensor, reducing "focus hunting" for faster and more direct focus control. When working with still images, this focus system provides fast and accurate focus detection, making it ideal for shooting and tracking moving subjects to ensure critical focus is achieved in every shot. When shooting video, the Movie Servo AF mode provides smooth and natural focusing when switching between different subjects or varying distances within the scene, as well as the ability to set tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and face or eye tracking priority. Benefiting from the Touch AF system, rack focus is possible by simply touching items within the scene on the touchscreen to change focus in an intuitive way. Subject tracking in movies is also improved, as the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system is able to detect subjects and maintain focus even in changing or cluttered scenes. Additionally, the focus system is sensitive down to EV -5 for precise AF in really low-light conditions.
UHD 4K video recording
Designed for multimedia photographers, the EOS RP supports recording in UHD 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) at up to 23.98 fps at 120 Mb/s, as well as Full HD 1080p and HD 720p at 60 fps for slow-motion playback. For in-camera recording, 4K video has 4:2:0 sampling and 8-bit color depth; 4:2:2 8-bit output is possible when using an external recorder.
Audio can be recorded using the built-in stereo microphone, or an optional external microphone can be used via the 3.5mm microphone jack.
Also, when recording video, the 5-axis dual-sensing IS can be used to electronically reduce camera shake for sharper and smoother recording.
