Details

Canon EOS RP

The Canon EOS RP is impressively small despite its large full-frame sensor, offering flexible imaging capabilities in a portable format. Equipped with a high-resolution 26.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor and a DIGIC 8 image processor, it can shoot both stills and UHD 4K video with a wide sensitivity range of ISO 100-40000 to enable work in a variety of lighting conditions. Continuous shooting at up to 5 fps is also supported for shooting moving subjects. The sensor also enables an advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF system with 4779 selectable phase detection points on the sensor for fast and accurate focusing in stills and video.

Complementing the sensor and processor, the RP features a 2.36m diagonal OLED electronic viewfinder and a 1.04m rear 3.0" LCD touchscreen for easy viewing from high and low angles. In addition, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth enable wireless remote control of the camera and direct sharing of images to connected mobile devices.

Canon RF lens mount

The

EOS RP is equipped with the RF lens mount, which supports Canons RF lens lineup. This mount features a large 54mm diameter and a short 20mm back flange distance, enabling the development of lenses that are both faster and smaller than their SLR counterparts. The mount also features a 12-pin electronic contact system for more sophisticated autofocus and image stabilization functions. This mount design also offers full compatibility with existing EF and EF-S lenses via an optional EF-EOS R mount adapter.

26.2-MP Full-Frame CMOS Sensor and DIGIC 8 Image Processor
The large 26.2-MP full-frame CMOS sensor offers an ideal balance of high resolution, low-light performance and high speed. Combined with the DIGIC 8 image processor, the EOS RP has a wide native sensitivity range of ISO 100-40000 for working in a wide range of lighting conditions. In addition, continuous shooting at up to 5fps is possible for working with moving subjects.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF

Dual Pixel CMOS AF provides smooth and fast focusing performance, similar to a camcorder. This system integrates two separate photodiodes in each pixel to provide a wide and dense network of phase-detecting detection elements over much of the image sensor, reducing "focus hunting" for faster and more direct control of focus. When working with still images, this focus system provides fast and accurate focus detection, making it ideal for shooting and tracking moving subjects to ensure critical focus is achieved in every shot. When shooting video, the Movie Servo AF mode provides smooth and natural focusing when switching between different subjects or varying distances within the scene, as well as the ability to set tracking sensitivity, AF speed, and face or eye tracking priority. Benefiting from the Touch AF system, rack focus is possible by simply touching items within the scene on the touchscreen to change focus in an intuitive way. Subject tracking in movies is also improved, as the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system is able to detect subjects and maintain focus even in changing or cluttered scenes. Additionally, the focus system is sensitive down to EV -5 for precise AF in really low-light conditions.

UHD 4K video recording

Designed for multimedia photographers, the EOS RP supports recording in UHD 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) at up to 23.98 fps at 120 Mb/s, as well as Full HD 1080p and HD 720p at 60 fps for slow-motion playback. For in-camera recording, 4K video has 4:2:0 sampling and 8-bit color depth; 4:2:2 8-bit output is possible when using an external recorder.

Audio can be recorded using the built-in stereo microphone, or an optional external microphone can be used via the 3.5mm microphone jack

.

Also, when recording video, the 5-axis dual-sensing IS can be used to electronically reduce camera shake for sharper and smoother recording

.

Body design

  • The built-in 2.36 million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder provides bright and clear viewing at eye level
  • .
  • The rear-facing 3.0-inch, 1.04m pixel LCD features a vari-angle design for easier operation when working from high, low and frontal angles
  • .
  • It's also a touchscreen for intuitive control of recording, playback and menu navigation.
  • Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity enables wireless sharing, control and image transfer with a compatible smart device via the Canon Camera Connect app, which also supports geotagging your files based on your mobile device's location data.
  • In-camera charging via USB is supported for easy charging on the go
.

Welcome to the creative world of the Canon EOS RP with full-frame sensor

New member in the full-frame world of Canon

The Canon EOS RP offers excellent value for money and sets a new course in the full-frame world of Canon. The camera features the innovative RF bayonet with high-speed 12-pin communication, a short flange focal length and a large bayonet diameter of 54 mm. Designed from the ground up, the RF bayonet enables the use of lenses with a new dimension of optical performance, responsiveness and functionality. Photographers and filmmakers can also take full advantage of the performance of existing EF and EF-S lenses thanks to the three optional EF-EOS R mount adapters. At the same time, two of the optional EF-EOS R adapters offer additional functionality; namely, the ability to use insert filters or a lens control ring.

More creativity through silent shutter release, speed and quality

The 26.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor of the Canon EOS RP, combined with the latest Canon DIGIC 8 processor opens up new creative possibilities with an optimal balance of detail, premium depth-of-field control and incredible low-light performance. The maximum ISO sensitivity of 40,000 - expandable up to ISO 102,400 - is optimal for low-light shooting. Together with the powerful Dual Pixel CMOS AF system, this enables autofocus down to -5 EV, even in dark environments.

Optimal image quality straight from the camera

The Digital Lens Optimizer (DLO) is automatically applied in-camera for all RF and for up to five registered EF lenses. For post-processing, the EOS RP offers the latest generation CR3 14-bit RAW format and a compact RAW option that saves approximately 40 percent of file size compared to standard RAW files. This increases the number of images that can be stored on a memory card while maintaining the flexibility of shooting with RAW. Images can also be processed in-camera for immediate editing. RAW images are processed using the internal RAW converter. Alternatively, they can be edited using the Creative Wizard. This offers a range of filters and effects that make it easy to convert the desired result into a JPEG file. These can then be shared directly from the camera after appropriate configuration.

EOS Handling - without compromise

Designed for mobile use and practical Canon EOS RP is the lightest and most affordable full-frame digital camera Canon has ever released. The camera body weighs 485g and is ideal for travel when space and weight are at a premium. Designed for shooting in a wide range of situations, the camera features a rugged magnesium alloy body with high-precision external components and seals against dust and splashing water.

The Canon EOS RP features powerful Dual Sensing IS technology to combat handheld camera shake and a silent shooting mode for discreet shooting. Continuous shooting at up to 5 frames per second or 4 frames per second with Servo AF, combined with a UHS-II card slot, allows for spontaneous action shots. This allows for unlimited continuous shooting in JPEG.

Added to this is the typical, familiar EOS handling. As with the EOS R, the controls can be customized and assigned individually. The Canon EOS RP feels good in the hand, is comfortable to use and shows its high flexibility thanks to customizable controls, scene modes and graphical menu interface. The ergonomic EOS-style grip, high-resolution 7.5cm rotating and tilting touchscreen, and 0.39-inch type OLED electronic viewfinder also make it easy to use. Matching the new EOS RP is also the new EG-E1 expansion grip. This allows battery and memory card changes even when attached. In addition, the EOS RP is compatible with the optional Canon Speedlite 470EX-AI flash unit.

Shoot

, Share and StayConnected
With smart Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity options for shooting and sharing, the EOS RP allows users to control the camera from their compatible mobile device to capture images or videos remotely via Wi-Fi. Once downloaded to the mobile device, the Canon Connect app offers full control over camera settings, a live image display, and even the ability to remotely activate camera readiness via Bluetooth. GPS coordinates are embedded in images when the EOS RP is connected to a compatible iOS or Android mobile device. On the go, the EOS RP can automatically sync images to a mobile device and transfer RAW data to the Canon DPP Express appTransfer

high-quality 4K video

The EOS RP offers just the freedom and capability for videographers who want a compact and easy-to-use camera. With its DIGIC 8 processor, the EOS RP can record video at up to 4K resolution at 25fps and Full HD at 60fps. With features like 4K Time Lapse, Interval Timer, Movie Servo AF, and HDR video, you can capture fast action and slow-motion sequences that impress with their extended dynamic range. Dual Pixel CMOS AFvii enables precise focusing and face detection, while 5-axis Movie Digital IS provides stabilization while filming to prevent camera shake when shooting freehand. Microphone and headphone jacks allow you to record and control audio in real time, while the rotating and tilting touchscreen lets you shoot from interesting angles. The video snapshot function combines 4-, 6- or 8-second clips. An easy-to-manage codec enables quick editing and reduces file size for storage.
