Active photography puts cameras and lenses through a lot. Protecting the sensitive front lenses from flying sand, dust, fingerprints or splash water with a filter is an obvious solution. Such protective filters not only cost a fraction of the lens, they are also easier to clean. They can remain permanently in front of the lens, as they are absolutely color-neutral, still of the highest transparency and, in addition, still low-reflective. The optical signal reaches the image sensor (or film) unaffected. In digital photography, protective filters play a particularly important role. Greater depth of field due to small sensors increases the influence of front lens contamination on image quality. Particularly with Zoomlenses with lower light intensity, fingerprints, for example, have a significant effect on sharpness. However, frequent cleaning of the front lens can not only leave scratch marks, but also transport dirt particles or moisture at the frame edge into the interior of the lens system.
