In the Canon EF 500mm f/4.0 L IS II USM uses fluorite and UD lenses that minimize aberrations and distortions. Due to the high initial speed of 1:4, and the Canon Extender EF 2.0x III, you can use with EOS Series 1 cameras with virtually no loss of focus.
The ring-shaped ultrasonic motor enables extremely fast, precise and quiet automatic focusing. The fast CPU and optimized AF algorithms also contribute to the high AF speed. If desired, however, focusing can also be performed manually at any time without having to leave the AF mode.
The integrated optical image stabilizer enables razor-sharp images with up to 4 stops slower shutter speeds. The different IS modes optimize the image quality and are recommended for camera panning and fast movements, for example.
In mode 3, the image stabilizer is only activated during exposure, making this mode ideal for action photography and especially when working with targeted camera pans.
SubWavelength Coating (SWC) is Canon's patented coating designed specifically for the demands of digital photography. SWC coating minimizes the causes of reflections. The result: clear and razor-sharp images.
The professional L-series models are Canon's highest-performance lenses and represent precision-engineered, top-of-the-line EF optics. They offer excellent imaging performance, first-class handling and are also protected against dust and splash water.
