Optical Image Stabilizer
To keep your shots razor-sharp, the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM uses Canon Image Stabilizer technology. This allows up to 3.5 stops longer exposure times than would normally be possible handheld, without increased risk from camera shake - ideal in low light or at high Zoom settings. Pan Detection disables the Image Stabilizer during horizontal or vertical camera pans, so moving subjects can be easily tracked with the camera.

STM Technology
The EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM uses a Stepping Motor (STM) that provides continuous and quiet focusing when shooting video with the EOS, or fast and accurate AF when shooting stills. STM focusing is so quiet that the camera's internal microphone does not pick up any noise that would interfere with sound recording when shooting video.

The EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM features a UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) glass element and Super Spectra coatings, so it delivers razor-sharp, high-contrast images throughout the Zoom range. A 7-blade iris diaphragm enhances the quality of the out-of-focus area, so your subject stands out clearly against a blurred background.

For great photos
A manual focus ring allows you to fine-tune the focus manually at any time; the close-up focusing distance of approx. 0.85 m allows you to photograph particularly small subjects. A rigid front element enables the effortless use of filters.
