Leica design features minimal distortion, chromatic aberration, reflections, and ghosting. This is ensured by Leica's acknowledged strict standards in design and manufacturing.
The lens consists of 14 lenses in 10 groups. An aspherical element and an ED element allowan extremely compact design without compromising quality and thus bring out the advantages of the MicroFourThirds standard particularly effectively. Particularly valuable in the macro range is the OIS image stabilizer, which effectively suppresses camera shake when shooting freehand or under poor lighting conditions.
Focusing is achieved via an internal focusing system with three shiftable lens groups. This guarantees uniformly high image quality over all distances from infinity to 0.15 m(1:1), and the lens size does not change. At the same time, focusing in photo and video is smooth and quiet. A switch on the lens allows the focusing range to be limited to 50 cm. With its 45 mm focal length, equivalent to 90 mm at KB, the LEICA DG MACRO-ELMARIT 2.8/ 45mm Asph./ OIS is also ideal as a light telephoto and classic portrait lens.
When used on a Lumix G system camera, it supports the variable contrast AF system with its functions such as face detection. 7 aperture blades produce a uniformly circular aperture, which brings a nice even blur to subject details outside the depth of field range at wide apertures. The LEICA DG MACRO-ELMARIT 2.8/ 45mm Asph./ OIS is equipped with a solid metal bayonet, and the multi-coating of the lens elements ensures high-contrast image reproduction without reflections or ghosting.
