The HD Pentax-D FA 50mm F/1.4 SDM AW has outstanding imaging performance, as well as exceptional resolving power, from the center of the frame to the edges even at open aperture. Featuring Pentax original lens coating technologies, including the latest Aero Bright coating II, the high-quality HD coating ensures sharp, high-contrast images without flare or ghosting.

The dust and weatherproof housing, also makes the new 50mm lens extremely reliable and durable for shooting in adverse outdoor conditions.

State-of-the-art optical technology

In the production of Pentax lenses, specially selected glass is used, which is treated with a High Definition (HD) coating and an "Aero Bright Coating II" developed by Pentax. This nanotechnology-based lens coating, applied to the multi-layer HD coating with a uniform porous structure, lowers the average reflection in the visible spectrum to less than 50% of conventional multi-layer coatings, effectively reducing flare and ghosting, even in difficult backlight conditions.

The use of three ultra-low dispersion glass elements and one aspherical element effectively compensates for chromatic and spherical aberrations, producing brilliant images with high contrast and edge sharpness. Because distortion is minimized even at a focusing distance of about one meter, the new 50 mm lens delivers razor-sharp, distortion-free images over the entire focusing range,from 40 centimeters to infinity.

The aperture design is also of particular importance. For example, the nine aperture blades in a circular arrangement at apertures F1.4-F2.8 ensure a particularly beautiful and natural bokeh. At the same time, they minimize fringing with point light sources.

Dustproof and weather-resistant construction

The AW (All Weather) feature, with eight special sealing rings, prevents moisture and dust from entering the lens interior. In combination with an appropriately weather-resistant digital SLR camera from PENTAX, it forms a durable and reliable camera system that is a dependable tool even in demanding shooting situations, such as rain, fog, splashing water or sub-zero temperatures down to -10°C. The front lens also features Super-Protect (SP) coating, which reduces dirt and moisture adhesion and makes it easier to remove greasy substances or splash water.

Newly developed ring SDM autofocus drive

The HD Pentax-D FAH 50mm F1.4 SDM AW is equipped with a new ring SDM autofocus. It has 7.5 times the torque of conventional lenses. This ensures uniformly fast and quiet focusing through the rear lens group.
