Optimal angle of view - beautiful portraits
The 85mm lens of Samyang is an ideal focal length for portraits and focuses on the essentials. On a full-frame camera, its 28.3° angle of view delivers optimal concentration on the subject. When the 85mm/1.4 is attached to an APS-C camera, an angle of view of 17.7° is effective, which roughly corresponds to the image impression of a 135 mm lens. The lens is very well corrected and convinces with very good and distortion-free imaging performance. The compact design delivers comfortable handling with a well-balanced center of gravity.

High-quality optics and mechanics
The lens is equipped with internal focusing and offers a closest focusing distance of 1.0 m. With 9 lenses in 7 groups, it is very intricately built, calculated for optimal performance even at open aperture. When focusing, the corresponding lens elements are shifted internally: the overall length of the optics therefore does not change, and the 72mm filter thread does not rotate when focusing. The iris diaphragm has 8 blades and thus an almost circular aperture. The progression into blur is rendered harmoniously with fine bokeh. Of course, all lens surfaces are multi-coated to increase the contrast of the images and to avoid reflections if necessary. Everything is rounded off by precise mechanics, clear click-stop aperture values and manufacturing in a high-quality metal mount.

Outstanding luminous intensity
The outstanding speed of this Samyang lens allows the use of shorter exposure times or lower ISO values. This significantly reduces image noise. The large initial aperture with shallower depth of field optimizes the position of the plane of focus in the viewfinder. A practical side benefit of the high light intensity is highlighting/complexing the subject against an out-of-focus foreground or background.
