Samyang MF 85mm F1.4 Z for Nikon Z

Samyang MF 85mm F1.4 is a high performance manual lens optimized and designed for the latest Nikon Z Mount camera series

The lens is designed for cameras with 35mm full frame sensor for best photo and video shooting. It is ideal for the latest mirrorless cameras in the Nikon Z series with high pixel count.

Optimal angle of view - beautiful portraits

The Samyang 85mm lens is an ideal focal length for portraits, focusing on the essentials. On a full-frame camera, its 28.3° angle of view delivers optimal concentration on the subject. When the 85/1.4 is attached to a Nikon APS-C camera, an angle of view of 19° is effective, which roughly corresponds to the image impression of a 126 mm lens. The lens is very well corrected and convinces with very good and distortion-free imaging performance. The very compact design provides a comfortable handling with a balanced center of gravity.

High-quality optics and mechanics

The lens is equipped with an internal focusing system and offers a closest focusing distance of 1.0m. With 9 lenses in 7 groups, it is very elaborately built, calculated for optimum performance already at open aperture. When focusing, the corresponding lens elements are shifted internally: the overall length of the optics therefore does not change, and the 72mm filter thread does not rotate when focusing. The iris diaphragm has 8 blades and thus an almost circular aperture. This results in a pleasant bokeh when out of focus. Of course, all lens surfaces are multi-coated to increase the contrast of the images and to avoid reflections if necessary. Everything is rounded off by precise mechanics, clear click-stop aperture values in half f-stops, and manufacturing in a high-quality metal mount.

Superior speed

The superior speed of this Samyang lens allows the use of shorter exposure times or lower ISO values. This significantly reduces image noise. The large initial aperture with shallower depth of field optimizes the position of the plane of focus in the viewfinder. A practical side benefit of the high light intensity is highlighting/complexing the subject against an out-of-focus foreground or background.

Innovative design and weather protection

The lens is not only outstanding technically, but also in appearance. It interprets the design of mirrorless cameras in a new way. Thus, camera and lens make a harmonious duo. The high-quality 85mm F1.4 lens has a compact design despite the solid metal housing. The focus ring is frosted, which not only suits the lens well, but also gives the photographer a good grip. The lens features Samyang weather protection and can withstand snow or light rain showers.

Advantages of a full-frame lens on a camera with an APS-C sensor

The Samyang MF 14mm F2.8 is designed for full-frame. Of course, you can also use it on cameras with smaller sensors, such as APS-C. Since a correspondingly smaller section of the lens' full-frame image circle impinges on the sensor, the angle of view is also a smaller one (28.3° for full-frame, 19° for APS-C on Nikon). The image content of the APS-C image is therefore a central section of that which would be imaged by a full-frame camera. Aberrations usually occur at the edge, especially with wide-angle lenses, so the quality for APS-C cameras is always maximum.
