With 14 lens elements in 12 groups, high-quality optics are achieved and the bokeh is so precise that you can, for example, focus on the pupil of a model and blur the eyelashes at the same time. Chromatic aberrations are minimized and thanks to two elements made of SLD glass (Special Low Dispersion) and one element with anomalous partial dispersion and a high refractive index, a clear image is possible over the entire imaging range.

Sagittal coma and streaking are reduced or prevented by the optical design. The Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) rotates 1.3 times faster than its predecessor. You can switch directly from focus tracking AF mode to manual focus by turning the focus ring (Manual Override).

Reflections and ghost images are prevented with the Super Multi-Layer (SML) coating, resulting in sharp, high-contrast images. The front and rear lenses are coated to repel oil and water.
