The incredible image quality delivers unprecedented visual experiences. Enjoy enhanced control over light and image composition. With a 20mm focal length and F1.4 speed, the SIGMA 20mm F1.4 DG HSM Art delivers outstanding brightness, natural bokeh, and unprecedented visual experiences. By taking advantage of the wide-angle perspective and narrow depth-of-field range at wide-open apertures, this lens is not only ideal for ultra-wide-angle subjects such as landscapes and starry skies, but is also suitable for snapshots in low-light conditions, interiors, portraits with natural bokeh, and more.
Designed for sophisticated optical performance and high expressiveness, the Art product line is suitable for special, artistic expression. With amazing imaging performance that meets the highest standards, these lenses are ideal for the kind of photography that awakens the artist in a photographer, in addition to landscapes, portraits, still lifes, close-ups and candid shots. The lenses in the Art product line are powerful tools of the trade for any genre. They excel both in the studio and outdoors, demonstrating expressive power in architectural shots, starry skies, and many other scenes.
Low chromatic aberration
The lens minimizes chromatic aberration, otherwise a typical problem with fast ultra-wide-angle lenses. It incorporates two FLD ("F" Low Dispersion) and five SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements to minimize lateral chromatic aberrations that would mainly be visible at the edges of the image. Likewise, an optimized power distribution helps to minimize longitudinal chromatic aberration. As a result, this lens delivers high image quality without color streaking in any situation, and its imaging performance is consistently sharp with high contrast.
Minimized distortion
Distortion is a typical problem with wide-angle lenses and cannot be corrected by changing the aperture value alone. So even the development phase of the lens is crucial to minimizing distortion. The perfect alignment of light directly with the first lens element and the inclusion of optimally positioned aspherical glass elements help to minimize distortion across the entire image in the SIGMA 20mm F1.4 DG HSM Art.
Reflection and ghosting eliminating design
From the beginning of the lens design process, susceptibility to reflections and ghosting was studied to achieve an optical design that is resistant to even strong backlighting. Already in the prototype phase, we did not rely on simulations alone, but also experimented in practice to better evaluate the cause of reflections and ghosting in a variety of shooting situations, so that we could in turn take measures to mitigate them. In addition, Super Multi-Layer Coating (SML) reduces reflections and ghosting and delivers sharp, high-contrast images even when backlit.
Superior performance for the high-megapixel era
At the dawn of the film camera era, there was very little high-sensitivity film stock. As a result, fast lenses became known as "fast lenses" that delivered good results in low-light conditions. Such lenses are ideal for shooting indoors, at dusk, under cloudy skies, or in other low-light situations.
Because the SIGMA 20mm F1.4 DG HSM Art offers the benefits of an ultra-wide-angle lens with barely noticeable distortion, it is ideal for shooting landscapes, starry skies and architecture. In addition to wide-angle shots with the entire scene in focus, photographers can take advantage of the large initial aperture to create images with an isolated subject against a background with attractive bokeh.
This high-performance lens is designed specifically for high-resolution digital cameras and delivers just that superior resolution, along with absolutely clear image quality, even at open aperture.
Round aperture
The near-round aperture of 9 aperture blades provides a very pleasing bokeh outside the plane of focus of the image.
Hyper Sonic Motor for fast focusing
The Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) provides quiet and very fast AF while the improvement of the AF algorithm results in smoother AF. Additionally, in AF mode, turning the focus ring at any time results in manual focus. This feature makes it possible to quickly adjust the focus without having to operate the AF/MF switch first. Using the optional SIGMA USB dock, conventional manual override focusing can also be set. (Note: The start-up of manual override focusing may differ depending on the connection).
Brass bayonet
The lens is equipped with a solid and durable brass bayonet. A special surface treatment is used for reinforcement and allows long-term use.
