Part of the first collection is the versatile SIGMA 35mm Prime lens, which expands the Contemporary product line. The 35mm F2 DG DN Contemporary is among the classic standard primes that photographers are loath to compromise on. The lens has a maximum aperture of F2 and offers both compactness and high optical performance. Its small size and light weight make it absolutely handy and thus a potential daily companion. Due to its excellent optical quality, large aperture, and high-quality manufactured body, which is synonymous with the I-Series, it is equally well suited for professional photography, such as astrophotography, as well as video recording. The combination of outstanding optical quality and exceptional portability, previously unavailable in this form with DSLR systems, offers new opportunities to current and future generations of photographers.

New standards in optical performance for the Contemporary product line

The 35mm F2 DG DN Contemporary brings to light the highest optical performance at an aperture of F2 with a compact lens body perfectly designed for mirrorless systems.

Longitudinal chromatic aberration, a point of particular importance in a fast lens, is optimally corrected with SLD glass. Sophisticated placement of high refractive index lens elements also provides effective correction of various types of aberration. The use of three high-precision, blank-pressed aspherical glass lenses, also contributes to the exceptional performance. These elements correct spherical aberration as well as image field curvature, and also suppress reflections and the fluctuation of aberration at the time of focusing. And yet, all in all, the amount of glass used has been kept to a minimum.

The lens design also provides very good sagittal coma correction, so that details can be captured so finely that it can also be used for astrophotography. Thanks to state-of-the-art optical design and advanced processing technology, the 35mm F2 DG DN Contemporary delivers consistent, high resolution across the entire image area.

Exceptional I-Series build quality in a compact form factor

All I-Series lenses feature all-metal construction. The precision-cut aluminum parts not only give the barrel a sleek, stylish finish, but also provide superior durability that enhances the overall quality of the product. Metal materials are likewise used for the internal construction, harmonizing with the control rings for added sturdiness. These high-precision components, manufactured using SIGMA's latest metalworking technology and also incorporated into the cine lens range for professional filmmakers, offer an exquisite feel as well as barely perceptible operating noise, making photographers want to use them again and again.

The cover ring between the focus and aperture rings is manufactured to fit precisely, as is the case with the manufacture of the Art line's rear cylinders. This cover provides a good grip when attaching or removing the lens.

Ghosting and reflection minimizing design

An ideal lens directs incident light through all the lenses and onto the sensor. If, on the other hand, some of the light is reflected by individual lenses, not only does the light yield decrease; the reflections within the lens create ghost images and aperture spots, or they reduce contrast. Such effects would be particularly noticeable in backlit shots.

To prevent this, our 35mm F2 DG DN Contemporary uses a Super Multi-Layer Coating (SML) that reduces flare and ghosting. The result is clear, sharp, high-contrast images without distracting lens flares.

A stepper motor is used for fast focusing. Auto focus with automatic eye detection used in newer mirrorless cameras is also supported, making precise focusing of portraits, for example, a breeze.
