Sigma 20mm f2 DG DN © Sony-E
Thanks to outstanding optical performance and premium build quality, the new SIGMA 20mm F2 DG DN Contemporary ultra-wide angle makes photography even more fun.
Designed from the ground up, this compact premium ultra-wide angle for mirrorless full-frame systems is the latest addition to SIGMA's I-Series, combining a large F2 aperture, a short 20mm focal length and stunning image quality.
With its compact shape and light weight, it can become a photographer's constant companion. It is ideal for landscape photography as well as wide-angle portraits, wedding and interior photography. With its well-corrected sagittal coma, it also makes edge-to-edge shots of the night sky possible. As the fourth lens in the I-Series with an F2 aperture, it joins the existing 24, 35, and 65mm focal lengths, together forming a well-graded lens set for users of the L-mount and Sonys E-mount.
Remarkably, the size and weight of the 20mm F2 DG DN Contemporary are almost exactly the same as those of the very compact SIGMA 24mm F2 from the ISeries, despite the wider angle of view. The elegant all-metal design with the magnetic lens cap characteristic of the I-Series, the aperture ring and the special manufacturing quality make photography a highly satisfying experience - it is even more fun to take pictures with it.
shooting with it. With its optical and mechanical quality, the SIGMA 20mm F2 DG DN Contemporary represents the essence of the I-Series; owning and shooting with it is a pure pleasure.
New optical performance standards in the Contemporary product line
The 20mm F2 DG DN Contemporary achieves high imaging performance from center to edge even at F2 open aperture. Based on the most advanced technology in lens design, the construction incorporates three high-precision bright-molded aspheres and one each of SLD and FLD lenses to correct aberrations. The result is sharp, high-contrast photos right into the corners of the image. SIGMA's lens developers have also focused on reducing sagittal coma, which is almost impossible to correct in image processing, resulting in precise imaging of very bright light points. This results in excellent sharpness throughout the image field and pays off especially in photos of the night sky.
In addition to the optical design of the lens, Super Multi-Layer Coating and Nano Porous Coating (NPC) of the lenses, respectively, ensure minimal flare and ghosting even when strong light sources shine toward the camera. This makes it easier to photograph subjects in backlit conditions while getting high-contrast shots with the desired "punch."
Outstanding I-series manufacturing quality in a compact form factor
All I-Series lenses are all-metal constructions. The precision machined aluminum components not only give the barrel a sleek, elegant finish, but also ensure excellent durability, enhancing the quality of the entire product. The use of metal in the internal components ensures smooth operation and exceptional robustness. These high-precision components, made with SIGMA's innovative metal processing technology, are also used in SIGMA's cine lenses for professional filmmakers. They ensure smooth operation of the focus ring and a smooth, almost silent engagement of the aperture, making these lenses a pleasure to use. In addition, you have the choice of non-linear as well as linear focusing, which the L-mount lens supports.
The cover between the focus and aperture rings is matte textured in a hairline process, as is the case with the rear barrel of Art series lenses; it gives fingers a secure grip when changing lenses.
