XD motors for fast, precise and consistent AF.

Two XD linear motors ensure fast, precise autofocus and reliable tracking. The SEL600F40GM brings out the best in modern cameras: even subjects in motion, such as sports or wildlife shots, stay in focus. The specially developed control algorithm enables positioning of a large focus group with minimal delay and vibration.

New XA element for excellent resolution and bokeh.

The optical design meets G Master requirements and consists of 3 fluorite elements to prevent aberrations that can occur with telephoto lenses. A large XA element prevents onion rings in the bokeh. The individually calibrated lenses provide a perfect balance between resolution and bokeh. Optional 1.4x and 2x high-performance teleconverters2 with XA elements are available.

Weighing just 3040 grams (including tripod mount), the lens is perfect for compact, lightweight E-mount cameras and offers easy handling. Smooth, precise panning shots succeed handheld and with monopod.

Reliability and durability for tough conditions

Dust- and splash-resistant design4 provides the reliability needed in challenging outdoor conditions. The fluorine coating on the front lens element repels water, oil and other contaminants. Magnesium alloy is used on the outer lens barrel, tripod mount, and critical areas inside the barrel to increase resilience.

Powerful features for professional requirements

When FULL TIME DMF is enabled, manual focus is used automatically when the focus ring is used, even in AF-C mode. MODE 2 of optical SteadyShot image stabilization enables panning shots. MODE 3 is suitable for dynamic sports or nature shots and facilitates subject capture due to the more stable viewfinder image.
