The Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 is the world's first fast 4.1x standard Zoom lens for mirrorless system cameras with APS-C sensor. It offers a universal focal length range of 17mm to 70mm (25.5-105mm KB equivalent) with a constant aperture of F2.8, as well as high image quality. It features Tamron's proprietary VC image stabilization system to prevent camera shake when shooting, and uses artificial intelligence (AI) to ensure steady images when shooting movies.

The lens is exceptionally compact and lightweight, as well as splash-proof. The front lens is coated with a water-repellent fluorine coating. The Tamron 17-70mm F2.8 has a 67mm filter thread, so a polarizing or gray filter will fit all models. The autofocus works very quietly, so that no disturbing focusing noises are recorded during video recordings.
