Tamron 150-500mm f5-6.7 Di III VC VXD Sony E-mount
The 150-500mm F/5-6.7 is Tamron's first ultra-telephoto zoom lens with 150mm to 500mm focal length for mirrorless system cameras with full-frame sensors. Its most striking feature is its compact design. Even at a focal length setting of 500mm, freehand shooting is possible without any problems.
The built-in VC image stabilizer and fast VXD autofocus enable sharp image results without a tripod, even at ultra-long focal lengths. At 150mm, the close-up distance is only 0.6m, so the lens can also be used for expressive close-ups.
Handy 500mm lens for a new era of telephoto photography
At 209.6mm long and 93mm in diameter, the 150-500mm F/5-6.7 is an unusually compact 500mm ultra-telephoto zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras. Fully extended, it measures just 238mm in length, remaining remarkably manageable even at its longest focal length. To switch between 150mm and 500mm, the Zoomring only needs to rotate 75degrees, less than a quarter turn. The desired focal length can be achieved with a small movement. Since the image section can be adjusted very quickly, working is very intuitive.
Impressive image quality and compact housing
The optical setup comprises 25 elements in 16 groups. Several special lenses, including one XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) and five LD (Low Dispersion) elements, as well as two hybrid aspherical lenses, result in effective correction of optical image errors, such as longitudinal chromatic aberration or axial chromatic aberration.
Fast, precise and quiet autofocus with VXD technology
The 150-500mm F5-6.7 features the highly acclaimed VXD autofocus linear motor of the 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VXD (model A056). VXD technology enables very fast and precise focusing in photo and video shooting, regardless of the selected focal length or subject distance. In particular, AF tracking of fast-moving subjects, such as athletes, birds or aircraft, is significantly improved by VXD autofocus. The camera can focus precisely on the main subject at all times, even in very dynamic situations. The linear motor of the VXD autofocus works very smoothly and almost silently. Unlike conventional AF systems, there is virtually no operating noise or vibration. This makes the lens ideal for photo and video shooting in environments where absolute silence is required.
VC image stabilization for sharp, detailed images
Despite its slim body, the 150-500mm F/5-6.7 has the VC image stabilizer developed by Tamron. Depending on the subject, you can choose between three different VC modes:
- Standard mode for normal subject situations
- pull-along mode for horizontal panning
- maximum stabilization of the captured image (without viewfinder image stabilization).
This functionality enables excellent stabilization performance in any situation and efficient reduction of image blur caused by camera shake.
Impressive tele-macro shots
The 150-500mm F/5-6.7 offers an exceptionally short shortest focusing distance for an ultra-telephoto lens, making it suitable for close-up photography. At 150mm focal length, photography can be done at a distance of only 0.6m, allowing a magnification of 1:3.1. At 500mm, the shortest focusing distance increases to only 1.8m, resulting in the largest possible magnification of 1:3.7. With the 150-500mm, impressive close-ups can be achieved that are not possible with conventional ultra-telephoto zoom lenses.
