Tokina SZX 400mm F8 Reflex MF Canon EOS
Optical design
Thanks to the catadioptric optical design, also known as reflex and mirror lens, a very long focal length of 400 millimeters is realized while being extremely compact and lightweight. Mirror lenses are telephoto lenses that contain a combination of 3 lenses that are silvered on the outside of the glass to reflect light back and forth between the ends of the lens.
This structure "folds" the light and halves the physical length of the lens body required to do so. The design thus gets by with one-third the size of a conventional telephoto lens and allows for a particularly lightweight body, since the mirrors are many times lighter than optical glass.
Compact and lightweight
As a lens with a focal length of 400 millimeters and a weight of only 355 grams (without mounting adapter), the Tokina SZX SUPER TELE 400 mm F8 Reflex MF can be easily carried in a small bag. This is especially interesting for travel photographers who want to use super telephoto lenses on their tours and still be able to travel light.
Optics
The lens elements inside the lens are coated with a multi-anti-reflective coating to effectively capture light, extending shutter speed in low-light conditions. The mirrored surfaces of the lens elements have a silver-plated coating with high reflectivity and a protective antioxidant coating on the back for long product life.
Hardly any chromatic aberrations
With reflective mirror lenses such as the Tokina SZX, hardly any chromatic aberrations occur in the image. This saves time in post-processing.
Macros
The minimum focusing distance of the Tokina SZX is only 1.15 meters. It allows a 1:2.5 magnification to capture a 6 x 9 centimeter object with a full-frame camera. Shadows in close-ups are largely avoided due to the design.
Specific bokeh
The optical design of the lens creates a very special donut-shaped and super-smooth bokeh, which is very popular among many artistic photographers.
Easy and precise focusing
The Tokina SZX SUPER TELE 400 mm F8 Reflex MF is equipped with a wide and easy-to-grip focus ring that offers the user a lot of sensitivity with a rotation range of 270 degrees, allowing for very precise focusing. Thanks to high-quality finished metal parts, the focus ring can be used smoothly even in low-temperature environments, and dust has no chance of being "sucked" into the lens.
Super compression
The long focal length of the Tokina enables images with super compression effect. The background appears very close and magnified compared to the focused main object.
Lens hood and filter
The Tokina comes with a lens hood and supports 67 millimeter diameter filters. This allows the photographer to use any type of filter to further enhance the image effect or to be artistically active.
