Tokina SZ 500mm F8 Reflex MF Nikon Z
The new Tokina SZ SUPER TELE 500 mm F8 Reflex MF is ideal for travel photography in particular, as the lens is almost tiny, compact and lightweight compared to conventional super telephoto lenses. It captures distant objects that cannot be reached with standard Zoom lenses in full format.
In addition to travel photography, the Super Tele is suitable for a wide range of photographic genres, such as landscape, people, street, macro, wildlife and even sports.
Optical construction
Thanks to the catadioptric optical design, also known as a reflex and mirror lens, a very long focal length of 500 millimetres is achieved, which is also extremely compact and lightweight.
Mirror lenses are telephoto lenses that contain a combination of 3 lenses that are silvered on the outside of the glass to reflect the light back and forth between the ends of the lens.
This structure "folds" the light and halves the physical length of the lens housing required to do so. The design is a third of the size of a conventional telephoto lens and enables a particularly lightweight body, as the mirrors are many times lighter than optical glass.
Compact and lightweight
As a lens with a focal length of 500 millimeters and a weight of only 310 grams (without mounting adapter), the Tokina SZ SUPER TELE 500 mm F8 Reflex MF can be easily transported in a small bag.
This is particularly interesting for travel photographers who use super telephoto lenses on their tours and still want to travel light.
Optics
The lens elements inside the lens are coated with a multi-anti-reflective coating to achieve effective light capture and thus extend the shutter speed in low light conditions.
The mirrored surfaces of the lens elements have a silver-plated coating with high reflective properties and a protective anti-oxidation layer on the back for a long product life.
Hardly any chromatic aberrations
With reflective mirror lenses such as the Tokina SZ, there are hardly any chromatic aberrations in the image. This saves time in post-processing.
Macros
The minimum focusing distance of the Tokina SZ is 1.7 meters. It enables a 1:2.86 magnification to capture an object measuring 6 x 9 centimetres with a full-frame camera. Shadows in close-ups are largely avoided due to the design.
Specific bokeh
The optical construction of the lens creates a very special donut-shaped and super-smooth bokeh, which is very popular with many artistic photographers.
Simple and precise focusing
The Tokina SZ SUPER TELE 500 mm F8 Reflex MF is equipped with a wide and non-slip focus ring, which offers the user a great deal of sensitivity with a rotation range of 270 degrees and therefore enables very precise focusing. Thanks to high-quality refined metal parts, the focus ring can also be used smoothly in environments with low temperatures and dust has no chance of being "sucked" into the lens.
Super compression
The long focal length of the Tokina enables images with a super-compression effect. The background appears very close and enlarged compared to the main object in focus.
Reflex or mirror lenses are anything but unfashionable. If you want to discover all the advantages of reflex lenses, you should try them out on a mirrorless camera.
Easy to focus
Functions such as focus peaking help you to find the sharpest focus area quickly and easily.
Less camera shake
The built-in image stabilizers of mirrorless cameras make it possible to take sharp hand-held shots even with such super telephoto lenses.
Faster shutter speeds
The latest mirrorless cameras boast outstanding high-ISO properties. Photographers can therefore select a faster shutter speed to further reduce camera shake. The increase in image noise remains extremely low.
The Tokina uses a standard T-mount (distance 0.75 mm, thread 42 mm), with which this lens can be mounted on various camera systems (Nikon F, Nikon Z, Canon EF, Fuji X, Micro 4/3 and Sony E) using mount adapters. By changing the adapter, the lens can be used on different cameras.
The Tokina SZ SUPER TELE 500 mm F8 Reflex MF is available in two different packages, as a lens without adapter and as a kit with one of the mount adapters.
