The APO-LANTHAR designation is given to particularly high-performance lenses in the Voigtländer range. And with the APO-LANTHAR 50 mm F2.0 we are talking about a real masterpiece! The development goal was to achieve the highest possible imaging performance without compromising on design. For this purpose, almost all technically possible stops were pulled out to ensure this top performance. Two aspherical lens elements, five with anomalous partial dispersion, an integrated floating focus system and an optical calculus that reduces chromatic aberrations to almost zero ensure outstanding performance. The total of 12 aperture blades have a special shape, creating a circular aperture not only at f2.0 but also at f2.8. This allows for a circular bokeh from a point light source. As usual with Voigtländer, aperture selection and focusing is done manually, using the focus peaking function, this can be done extremely precisely. The aperture clicks in 1/3 steps and can also be switched completely to stepless (and thus noiseless).
The Voigtländer APO-LANTHAR 50 mm F2.0 has electrical contacts that allow the lens settings to be included in the Exif information of the image data during image capture. In addition, the lens is equipped with a distance encoder that enables support for 5-axis image stabilization on Sony cameras by providing the distance to the subject to compensate for camera shake.
