Lenses of the PENTAX smc DA* series are characterized by a number of special features. For example, these lenses are protected against the effects of weather, such as rain or dust, by the use of special seals.
PENTAX uses special fluoride compounds for the coating of the front lenses - the unique SP (Super Protect) technology. Here the front lens is coated with a special coating. This nano-technology ensures that fingerprints or greasy residues, for example, can be removed quickly and easily if necessary.
Another very important detail is described by the suffix "SDM". These lenses feature a fast and very quiet autofocus drive based on ultrasonic technology*.
Another important feature is the Quick Shift Focus System. It allows the photographer to change the focus as desired after automatic focusing. This means that direct manual fine-tuning of the focus is possible at any time without switching off the autofocus.
The smc DA* 60-250 mm / 4ED [IF] SDM fills an important Lücke in the PENTAX range for demanding photography. The focal length range connects directly to the standard wide-angle zoom 16-50 mm, and reaches a telephoto focal length of 375 mm (equiv. 35 mm). This covers the most important working range of everyday photography with 2 lenses.
The aperture remains constant over the entire working range and starts at F4.0.
Internal focusing and straight tracking simplify the work.
In addition to ultrasonic autofocus, the lens features the classic PENTAX AF drive. A special feature on this lens is a tripod clamp that can be quickly mounted when needed, providing balanced weight distribution when using a tripod.
* SDM system (Supersonic Motor) only in conjunction with corresponding cameras (e.g. K10Dor K100D super); all other PENTAX DSLR cameras use the conventional body-side AF drive for focusing.
