Sony DSC-RX100 Mark VII
With the RX100 VII (model DSC-RX100M7), Sony continues its award-winning RX camera series. The camera uses technologies developed for Sony's Alpha 9 full-frame mirrorless camera. As a result, the RX100 VII achieves the performance of a professional camera as a compact camera. At the heart of the new RX100 VII is the newly developed 1.0-inch Exmor RS CMOS image sensor and the latest generation BIONZ X image processor. They open up new dimensions in autofocus performance and speed, previously only available with the Alpha 9. The ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* Zoom lens (24-200 mm F2.8-4.5 provides great shooting flexibility, making the RX100 VII usable in all shooting conditions.
New benchmark in compact camera AF performance
The RX100 VII is equipped with the world's leading number of 357 phase AF points and 425 contrast AF points. It also achieves the world's fastest AF speed of 0.02 seconds through optimized lens drive control. Significantly improved AF/AE tracking performance in continuous shooting enables up to 60 AF/AE calculations per second and captures fast-moving subjects at up to 20 frames per second - making it easy to capture every moment quickly and sharply.
Unlimited Live View without blackout is possible with the new image sensor - even with continuous shooting at 20 frames per second. This is equivalent to the performance of the Alpha 9. In addition, the RX100 VII is equipped with a new single-frame continuous shooting mode. This enables perfect high-speed shooting in JPEG/RAW format with an anti-distortion shutter.
Single-frame continuous shooting mode allows subjects to be captured in fast motion - the camera creates 7 different shots when triggered at 90, 60 or 30 frames per second, from which the user can then select the perfect image.
The RX100 VII is the first compact camera with precise real-time tracking and real-time eye autofocus. Real-time tracking uses the latest Sony algorithm with AI-based object recognition. This ensures that subjects are always in focus, even during subject selection via touch on the display. Real-time eye AF is the latest version of Sony's eye autofocus technology, which also uses AI to detect the subject's eyes and process collected data extremely quickly. This optimizes the accuracy, speed, and tracking performance of eye AF for people and animals, allowing photographers to focus entirely on image composition.
Small film wonder
The RX100 VII is so compact and lightweight (approx. 302 g/102 mm x 58 mm x 43 mm13) that it fits in any pocket and can be used where other cameras are too large. Nevertheless, it offers a wide range of professional functions for movie recording, for example for vlogging:
Integrated 4K video function with full pixel readout without pixel binning at a high bit rate14 in XAVC S format.
Real-time tracking and real-time eye AF for video recording
4K ActiveSteadyShot, which is 8 times more powerful than standard 4K SteadyShot
Integrated microphone port15
Hybrid Log-Gamma (HDR16)/S-Gamut3.Cine/S-Log3, S-Gamut3/S-Log3
Compatible with "Movie Edit Add-on" function, the Imaging Edge app add-on for smartphones, for enhanced image stabilization and editing during video recording
Portrait shooting for movies in video mode17
Interval shooting18 for stunning time-lapse movies
Super Slow Motion19 shooting at up to 1000 frames per second
180-degree tilting touchscreen for vlogging shots
"The RX100 VII sets new standards in compact camera photo and movie shooting, and we're confident that its outstanding speed and superb AF capabilities will be well received," said Yann Salmon Legagneur, product marketing director at Digital Imaging, Sony Europe. "The camera offers the performance of the Alpha 9 in a pocket-sized package, so users can rely on this camera in all situations."
