the way.

How does it work?
Your AirTag emits a secure Bluetooth signal that devices in the "Where is?" network can detect when they are nearby. These devices send the location of your AirTag to iCloud and you can see it on a map in the "Where is?" app. The whole process is anonymous and encrypted to protect your privacy. And it's efficient, so you don't have to worry about battery life or data usage.

Lost mode makes it even easier to find
Just like your other Apple devices, you can switch your AirTag to "Lost" mode. You will then automatically receive a notification when a device from the network finds it. You can also set your contact details to be retrieved by tapping the AirTag with an NFC-enabled smartphone. This is the same technology that makes it possible to pay with your smartphone.

Data protection as standard
Only you can see where your AirTag is. Your location data and its history are never stored on the AirTag. All devices that forward location data from your AirTag also remain anonymous, and the location data is encrypted at every step of the transmission. Therefore, not even Apple knows the location of your AirTag or the identity of the device helping to locate it

AirTags are designed to prevent unauthorized tracking. If an unfamiliar AirTag gets into your stuff, your iPhone will recognize it and notify you. If you still haven't found it after a while, the AirTag will play a sound to let you know it's there

Of course, you don't have to worry if you're traveling with others who have an AirTag, or if there are a lot of people with AirTags on the same train. The notifications are only activated when the AirTag is no longer near its owner.
