Sigma 16-28mm f2.8 DG DN © L-Mount
In the full-frame SIGMA 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary combines outstanding image quality and a large constant aperture of F2.8 with a robust yet lightweight construction. It thus opens up new scope for L-mount photographers who expect professional results from a compact product. Thanks to excellently corrected field curvature, the 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary images sharply right to the corners of the frame, which is crucial for many wide-angle applications.
Five FLD lenses and four aspheres ensure optimum image quality with a minimum of aberrations. An internal zoom mechanism ensures that the length of the lens remains the same over the entire focal length range and that it is always well balanced in the hand. The fact that the center of gravity hardly shifts when Zooming is also an advantage for mounting in a gimbal. A thread on the front simplifies the use of filters, and the
lens is unusually compact in design
.
Weighing just 450g, it measures just 100.6mm, so you can carry it with you all the time in everyday photography. It appeals especially to landscape, wedding, and travel photographers who need to carry their equipment around for hours at a time. Lightweight, extremely powerful and yet versatile, the SIGMA 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary lets photographers enjoy all the freedom of the ultra-wide angle range without any worries
.Uncompromising optical performance in a compact package
Optimized with the latest technology in lens design, the 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary is a high-performance lens that delivers outstanding image quality despite compact dimensions. Two large aspheres and five optimally used FLD lenses, whose material has the properties of fluorite glass, keep weight and dimensions low. Likewise, the high-quality lenses provide effective correction of the chromatic aberration and lateral chromatic aberration that often affect the image quality of other ultra-wide-angle designs.
In addition, the lens takes advantage of the digital correction capabilities of modern cameras to deliver impressive image quality with small dimensions. The constant F2.8 aperture throughout the Zoom range allows for shots with a shallow depth of field and beautiful background blur, especially for close-up subjects.
Blur circles are soft and round thanks to the nine rounded aperture blades, so the background doesn't distract from the foreground subject
in focus.
SIGMA has also taken extensive measures to combat ghosting and aperture spotting caused by reflections in the lens barrel. Super Multi-Layer Coating ensures that the 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary still produces crisp, high-contrast images even in the most critical backlit situations
.Practical design for greater flexibility and ease of use
Thenew 16-28mm has a filter thread on the front lens that makes it easier to attach ND and polarizing filters, for example, than via a rear filter adapter. This benefits landscape photographers and videographers in particular. The choice of a stepper motor for focusing the 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary makes autofocus as fast as it is silent, making the lens ideal for shooting stills and movies in situations where focusing noise would be distracting.
Because of its internal zoom, the length of the lens remains the same throughout the focal length range, and its center of gravity also barely shifts when Zooming
. It isespecially useful when mounting the camera in a gimbal to keep it balanced as you change the focal
length.Outstanding manufacturing quality and intuitive ergonomics.
The lens construction uses specially selected, exceptionally lightweight materials, including TSC (Thermally Stable Composite), a polycarbonate with thermal expansion similar to that of aluminum. This allows the lens to exhibit its high performance even under extreme temperature changes, as the metal and plastic parts expand or contract at the same rate. The
precision in the manufacture of each component and the simple elegance of the finished product owe much to the artistry and experience of the staff, SIGMA's unique manufacturing technology, and rigorous quality control at SIGMA's sole production facility in Aizu, Japan. Lightweight and compact, the 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN Contemporary is a complex yet versatile tool that offers photographers and filmmakers the perfect combination of performance and portability
