Exmor RS CMOS sensor type 1.0
For image performance previously unattainable for a compact camcorder, the Z200 relies on a large Exmor RS CMOS image sensor type 1.0 with approx. 14.0 megapixels (effective). Its special multi-layer structure - where back-illuminated pixels are overlaid on top of integrated signal processing - enables both faster read speeds and superior low-light performance as more light reaches the sensor.
BIONZ XR image processing
Our latest BIONZ XR image processor is built into the image sensor, enabling faster frame rates, faster autofocus, better ATW (Auto White Balance) control and superior noise reduction. It gets the maximum performance out of the high-resolution image sensor and effortlessly captures the most subtle textures and finest details. 5K Oversampling with full pixel readout processes the rich image information into stunning 4K (3,840 x 2,160) 60p video.
More precise white balance
The Z200's ATW (Auto White Balance) control has been further developed together with the BIONZ XR and AI functions. The camera's AI processing unit enables more precise ATW control even in difficult lighting conditions, such as when the subject is in shadow.
Advanced AI processing unit for next-gen autofocus
A special AI processing unit that works together with the BIONZ XR uses deep learning based on human shape and posture data to recognize human subjects with high precision. The fast hybrid autofocus offers 81% coverage, providing better support for autofocus subject detection and real-time tracking. The Z200 can effortlessly track and keep subjects in focus almost anywhere in the frame.
Auto Cropping*
When Auto Cropping is activated, the camera automatically tracks a detected human subject and adjusts the framing so that the subject is always conspicuously positioned in the frame. The resulting shots look as if a human has manually adjusted the framing throughout the shot, even though the camera has not been moved the entire time. When working alone, for example, you can focus on your interviewee during an interview instead of having to constantly check the camera position.
4K content is cropped to a narrower angle of view.
4K 120 fps* for breathtaking slow motion
The high readout speed of the Exmor RS sensor enables recordings with 4K HFR (high frame rate) and up to 120 fps or FHD and 240 fps. With 4K, 4x slow motion is possible at 30p and 5x slow motion at 24p. Whatever you choose, the extremely fast autofocus ensures that the subject always remains in focus. Slow motion and time-lapse** are supported for recordings up to 4K 120 fps and FHD 240 fps
*With approx. 23% image cropping. 100 fps/200 fps in PAL mode. Please refer to the minimum requirements for the memory card in the instruction manual to ensure correct operation.
**No audio is recorded during slow motion and time lapse.
20x optical Zoom
An excellent Sony G Lens™ with 20x power Zoom covers everything from wide-angle shots for in-car interviews to telephoto close-ups for sports. Behind the optical Zoom range of 24-480 mm (35 mm full-frame equivalent) is Sony's Clear Image Zoom technology, which even enables 30x Zoom when shooting in 4K or 40x Zoom in FHD. In addition, you can try out maximum apertures of F2.8 (wide-angle) and F4.5 (telephoto) while zooming quickly, smoothly and silently.
Advanced image stabilization
Camera shake is reduced to a minimum by the integrated image stabilization. For smooth, steady images, Active Mode* image stabilization combines optical and electronic stabilization to make handheld shots glide effortlessly
*Easy image cropping in Active Mode. Active mode is not available when shooting at frame rates of 120 (100) fps or more or in slow or fast motion.
Built-in electronically adjustable ND filter
The electronically adjustable ND filter can be seamlessly adjusted for a wide range of lighting conditions. Simply turn the dial to adjust it from 1/4 to 1/128 ND, or let the Auto ND function set the optimum exposure for you - especially handy when switching quickly between indoor and outdoor shots.
Precise LCD monitor and OLED viewfinder
Find and focus subjects easily with a new Type 3.5 LCD monitor that delivers approximately 27.6 million dots with excellent brightness and clarity. The monitor can be tilted up and down as well as backwards, so you can always easily find a comfortable viewing angle. The supplied LCD lens hood can be easily attached by sliding it into the grooves at the top and bottom of the LCD monitor. The monitor can be folded for storage even with the lens hood attached.
For clear viewing without distractions, the high contrast OLED viewfinder Type 0.39 screens out unwanted light and delivers approximately 2.36 million dots.
Compact in design and storage
The electronic viewfinder and LCD display can be easily folded for storage of this lightweight camera. The Z200 (main body only) weighs approximately 1.96 kg and measures 175.6 mm x 201.3 mm x 371.1 mm (7 x 8 x 14 5/8 inches) (WxHxD). When stored, the dimensions are reduced to 175.6 mm x 175.4 mm x 285.1 mm (7 x 7 x 11 1/5 inches) (WxHxD)*. With the detachable microphone holder, the camera offers even better mobility
